NightLife: Inked

It's our third annual celebration of ink! Explore the wonders of ink, from cephalopods to live tattoos–yes, the real kind.

Enjoy all the museum has to offer plus these featured events:

• Welcome back to the NightLife tattoo pop-up shop! This year’s shop features local artists from Parallax Art Studio: Emily, Louise, Jay, Kathy, and additional designs created by Joyce. A few lucky individuals will be able to get some ink of their own with a selection of flash designs inspired by the Academy’s most iconic spaces and creatures. Want to nab one of the coveted spots? There will be a limited number of available spots given out on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend getting here early for the chance to say you got tattooed at NightLife.
• Expect needle sharp beats from Cutso, King Most, Ross Hogg, and Wreck A Noize and a visit from the iconic cuttlefish art car, Sepia Lux.
• Dive into the wild world of underwater ink for a live talk about cephalopods with author and expert Danna Staaf. Discover the unique role ink plays in the lives of squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish, from defense mechanisms to courtship displays.
• Flex your creative muscles and learn how to draw an octopus during a hands-on workshop with SS Julian, creator and illustrator of Octopolis.
• Plus, bring home another cephalopod-inspired masterpiece with a drawing brought to life on the spot by local illustrator Nigel Sussman!
• Stop by and learn about the newly opened ‘American Irezumi Tattoo’ exhibition at San Francisco Public Library. (Psst…they’ll have some fun giveaways, too!)
